This work speaks to Bart’s ongoing experimentation with canvas as a penetrable surface. She began by weaving together painted strips of canvas, like she would weave the warp and weft of a textile. As her process evolved, she painted a solid piece of stretched canvas, cut slits in the surface, and then wove painted strips of canvas through the openings. For Convergence, Bart cut a series of diagonal slits into the canvas but left the curling edges open rather than weaving through them.
