In ancient Roman mythology, “genii loci” referred to the protective spirit of a place. Magnifying glasses, hung at various lengths, are partially covered by fragments of text that do not make cohesive words. These emblems of search and discovery seem to call us to look closely at our surroundings and consider the distinctiveness of place. When combined with fragments of indecipherable text, they suggest that we see the world through the prism of our experience.
